A Stained Glass Studio on a Mission—to Promote Mission Style Stained Glass Windows for Your Home or Office

Mission style stained glass is almost always associated with the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, even though there were several designers from this time who incorporated this same style. Most people are familiar with it in furniture, but the fact is Lloyd Wright designed every single detail of his buildings, from the structure and shape to the interior rooms, and even the furnishings which those rooms would contain. In this way, the buildings achieved a harmonious design.

What is not as commonly known is that Lloyd Wright was not just an architect or interior designer, but a talented artist in other mediums as well. To him, even the windows of a building were an integral part of the overall concept, the overall feel, the overall design. They weren’t just purely functional openings, put there to let light into the building. They had to pull their weight, just like every other design feature, in fact, instead of calling his glass art stained glass windows, he referred to them as light screens.

And one of the best features, then and to this day, of stained glass windows is their ability to add a unique decorative element while still allowing the sun to shine through—no curtains or shades required.

To that end, Frank Lloyd Wright designed numerous stained glass windows in his buildings in the Mission style.

The Mission style is part of the American Arts and Crafts Movement that began in the late 19th century. Mission style stained glass is known for its simple clean lines with a few bright colors. It frequently mixes traditional colored stained glass with clear glass, for dramatic effects.
